Pict. 52 Early Christian marble relief, 5th-6th century.
At the end of the large room, at the apse, there is an early Christian trapeza (holy altar) while all round on special supports there are early Christian marble reliefs (probably an epistyle) decorated with a winding plant ornament and rings in which there are animals, birds and dried fruit (picture 52). At a higher level in the middle there is a large processional icon of the Mother of God Hodegetria (13th century) supported by a pole. On either side of it there are icons depicting the Apostles and part of a Large Deesis made by Paul the Hierograph (17th century)
